Unfortunately, the second point is too true for comfort. In a perfect world, you shouldn't have to brag about your accomplishments. Your actions and work results speak for themselves.
Im the real world, the rules are different: Do great things and talk about them. It isn't just about great work results, it is very much about self-marketing.
Or, as a former colleague liked to say:
"Wow them with wisdom or baffle them with bullshit."
